Prattville Light Dragoon March
As performed by the 5th Alabama Infantry Regiment Band
Music of the Old South, Volume 3
Composed circa 1862 as a tribute to the Prattville, Alabama Light Dragoons cavalry company, this instrumental is a musical example of the "quickstep" ballroom dance style that first became popular throughout the country beginning about 1850. Quickstep tunes during the Civil War often celebrated various leaders and military units, usually intended to boost morale.
